Evaluating Global Blockage engineering parametrizations with LES

Under the term global blockage, cumulative induction of wind turbines in a farm has been recently suspected to be responsible for observed overestimations energy yield large-size farms. In this paper, practice modeling effect after linear superposition single turbine inductions, calculated with three most recent analytic models, is compared Large-Eddy-Simulations We compare models across two different farms, composed 9 and 49 turbines, heights atmospheric boundary layer, 300 500 m. The results show hat differences between analytical are negligible while they substantially differ from LES results. consistently underestimates velocity deficit front an error that increases as size grows ABL height decreases. Also, when calculating power output at farm, all considered do not agree LES. These comparisons reveal interactions layer may highly outclass determining extent blockage effect. Therefore, we present first dimensional approach problem based on LES, aimed simplifying its characterization.
